Fact about me: I am not a fan of Asian food. Yuck.
Today my roommate and I spent the day together. We got our textbooks, (there goes a pay check or two) and walked around the mall. We also saw some very dear friends that we have not seen all summer.
It was good to get out and walk around campus again. Ah, college.
Afterwards, we went down to Provo to go out to eat with my roommate's sister and cousin.
Little did I know where exactly we were going to...
It was a tiny little restaurant on the corner that could easily be missed. Inside, the tables were long and black as were the chairs. A theme of red, cream, black, and a bit of green neatly splashed the walls, and throughout their paintings. The wooden floor was dark and clean. The place was very small indeed, and the chairs were soft. We were seated in front of clean, white, plates that were square with rounded corners.
Chopsticks on the right, forks on the left.
So glad they had forks.
The music and overall aroma of the room fit the part of a typical oriental restaurant.
I knew I was in for it.
After searching the menu, we decided to order some pork and beef dumplings and a spicy, chicken soup with coconut milk.
Another fact about me: I really don't like coconut flavored anything. End of story.
The dumplings were small, but awkwardly not small enough to be one bite.
Not easy to cut into two bites either.
Didn't even try the chopsticks.
And actually surprisingly very delicious. The flavor was good, but subtle; not overpowering. And no I wasn't brave enough to try the mysterious, thick, black sauce that came with it.
The soup was an interesting dish; well presented and good color. Again served in a square, white bowl with rounded corners. There were long noodles and pieces of chicken, but it was a bit spicy for my liking. The coconut flavor was subtle, but definitely there.
The chopsticks were fun to try, but still grateful for the forks.
Overall, I think I'll admit that I would go back again. It's good to try new things.
I think my roommate mentioned something about a Greek festival this weekend...
Use the chopsticks to spear the dumplings. It's as if you were an Amazonian Abiriginy hunting fish along the banks of a rain forest hidden river with a long sharpened stick... You see one... You position yourself... AEEEYYYAAAHHHH! You spear the poor helpless creature. Then you, ever so delicately, nibble the little dumpling off your stick.
