Don't you just love it when all of your roommates are sick?
I'm starting too feel a bit under the weather myself; I woke up this morning with a slight sore throat, but after I was up and ready for the day I felt better. I hope I do not get sick; I think I just need to go to bed early. I got up early this morning and walked out the door around 8:25am. I took the trax to school and talked to my mom on the phone for a bit. I went to my first class bright and early this morning; public speaking. We discussed the outline for our next speech; our persuasive speech. I'm not sure what I am going to speak on yet, but I'll think of something. I also have a group project in that class; we have to do a service project and write a group persuasive speech/presentation about why others should do service based off our experience.
Then I headed down stairs for our school's weekly' devotional. Today's devotional was most excellent; allow me to write a few of my thoughts.
The speaker began by explaining to us how we can be taught from on high; if I open myself up to the Spirit, I can be taught from on high. (D&C 43: 8-9, 16) I must 'bind myself' to act upon the promptings that I will receive.
He then moved on to his topic at hand; pornography. He described pornography as a plague; as many of the prophets and apostles have also described this destructive addiction.
"Mass moral destruction."
"The Lord is pushing us to do better," He continued. "Marriage does not solve the problem of pornography!"
He showed us videos of married couples who had been suffering from the affects of pornography in their marriage and family. Their poor wives were sobbing, depressed, and heart-broken. The husbands were working through their addiction, but still suffering through the painful process. Their families were broken. They "could not get the images out of their head, thus they could not receive the Spirit."
"There is hope-If you work at it."
He talked about why pornography was dangerous.
1. because it is addictive
2. because once you start, you can never get enough
3. because it starts to turn you away from your family, friends, careers, etc.
4. because you lose the guidance and comfort of the Spirit
There are many reasons why it is so dangerous.
He said that nationally 47% of households say that pornography affects their families.
What are we to do?
Bind ourselves to act.
He encouraged us to talk about pornography with people we seriously date.
"If you don't have the conversation, you don't know!"
"You don't marry them to save them, you marry them because you trust them!"
Follow the Spirit in all things.
I learned a lot about the real dangers of pornography and absolutely not allowing it in my life or in my future family life. It is Satan's tool to ruin and destroy the family; it is dangerous and destructive.
I will not allow pornography to invade the sanctity of my home and family life.
After the devotional, my roommate and I went to our Doctrine and Covenants class. We discussed sections 42 and 44. We learned about and discussed the Law of Consecration and building a Zion community.
I had a break between before my next class, where I worked on my mission prep homework and was in the computer lab with a few friends.
I went to my mission prep class, which was very good.
After class, I went out to eat with a few friends and then I went home. I am so tired! I am going to work on some homework tonight and then go to bed early; I do not want to get sick!
